- The Mail app for Mac has a built in junk filter which attempts to identify and isolate spam mail from the rest of your emails. For the most part, the Mail Junk filter is pretty good on the Mac, but sometimes it’s a little too good, and some users may find that Mail on the Mac is erroneously flagging legitimate emails as junk (or spam).
- In the Mail app on your Mac, select messages or conversations in the list. All of the messages in a conversation will be deleted. Click the Delete button in the Mail toolbar or press the Delete key. If you delete a mailbox, all of the messages in the mailbox are deleted. You can search for a set of messages.

If you don’t want to receive email messages from a specific person or group, you can block them. If you change your mind later, you can easily unblock them.
Block senders
- Desktop sharefile. In the Mail app on your Mac, select a message from the sender you want to block.
- Move the pointer next to their name in the message header, click the arrow, then choose Block Contact.The Blocked icon appears next to the sender’s name in the message list and a banner is added to their messages to indicate they’re blocked. The banner also provides a link to the Blocked pane in Mail preferences where you can manage blocked senders.
You can also add senders directly to the list of blocked senders. Choose Mail > Preferences, click Junk Mail, then click Blocked.

- In the Mail app on your Mac, select a message from the sender you want to unblock.
- Move the pointer next to their name in the message header, click the arrow, then choose Unblock Contact.

You can create rules that help you manage incoming email messages and automate tasks, such as replying to or deleting messages. For example, you can create a rule that highlights messages from a specific person, or that automatically moves messages from your inbox to other mailboxes.

- In the Mail app on your Mac, choose Mail > Preferences, then click Rules.To review an example of a rule, select a provided rule, then click Edit. To close the rule, click Cancel.

Mail stops applying rules to a message when it encounters the Stop Evaluating Rules action, or when a message is transferred to another mailbox by rules used on a mail server or computer or device synced to your computer.

If you use iCloud Drive, your rules are available on your other Mac computers that have iCloud Drive turned on and Mail selected in in iCloud Drive options. Files attached to rules, such as sound files or scripts, aren’t available. See Use iCloud Drive to store documents.
